PAPER GAME

As I mentioned before in my previous post, every time when we attend our PPD lecture we get something new. PPD session helps us to improve our soft skills. As an university student and also as a member of this society we have to develop our soft skills. Paper tower is one of those great,fun and interesting activities which is done by our class members.

What is a paper tower

A paper tower is a tower which is made by papers. In this activity you have to  build the strongest, tallest and most stable tower. It is not an easy work. Because we use papers for this. You have to have a plan and a design before you build it.

Activity

Firstly our friends were divided into 3 groups. Every group had 8 members. But there were some rules for this activity.

•  You must only use the materials which are given by the lecturer.
• You must use all papers.
• You must develop the strongest, tallest and most stable tower within 45 minutes.
• It must  be kept outside of the class.

After we divided into our groups we have to design plan. It’s not that hard because every team had 8 members. All of them had specific ideas. But firstly we named a leader because if we are going to do some project or activity there must be a leadership to guide. So we named one of our friends as our leader because his creativity level was higher than all of us. Together we were a strong team.

Firstly we thought about a strong base because we had to stabalize this tower on the ground outside of the room. So we decided to make a very strong base because stability is necessary.  We divided our tower into 3 parts. Base, middle & upper set of the tower.

When we are designing our tower we had to think about strength and also number of papers because lecturer gave us only 12 papers and our task was to build a strongest and tallest paper tower. So we couldn’t use much papers for our base. Height is also an important point.

Time was limited. So we had to get on with our work quickly. The leadership made our project much more easier. We divided our group into 3-3-2. 3 for base, another 3 for middle part of the tower and 2 for highest part of tower.

We held lot of discussions. Sometimes we were disagreed with another one’s decisions. But as a team we have to keep our team spirit. So most of the time we did our work by voting for the decisions that we make because we had that feeling about our team.

There were 2 tamil friends with us so we had to communicate in English because all members must have an idea about what’s going on.

There was a competition because we knew our lecturer will rank our work. So we tried to be the best team. With that feeling we did our work much more harder. After all those things we managed to make a great paper tower within 45 minutes. We were named as the best team because that leadership and team spirit. After that I knew when we are going to do a group work there must be a leadership definitely because that leadership lead us to a success. 

By this activity we learned many important things as follows :

• How to organize and plan a project.
• How to take right decisions.
• How to work with people.
• How to solve our problems using the best solution. 
• Importance of a leadership.
